About the Ebook
Eileen and Graham Robinson, in their 70's, retired and living above the Weiti River in Whangaparaoa, New Zealand, are persuaded by their daughter Rebekah to travel in Europe and to stay in Youth Hostels. Eileen is reluctant to leave her garden, insists on 'researching' everything but, once away becomes besotted with travel and hosteling. The gypsy life!
They take three long trips over five years staying in eighty hostels; a castle in Spain, a fisherman's cabin in Brittany, an ex-granary in Venice, a Welsh hunting lodge, a one-time railway goods shed, in a caravan in the woods, an ex-army barracks in Paris and within fortress walls in Carcassonne. They explore the Thames from hostels along its length. In London, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona they brave big city hosteling. Family members provide occasional respite... an apartment on Paris's left bank, a boutique hotel beside Prague's Charles Bridge, a village house in the Languedoc and a flat in a London student residence. On their return, Eileen writes their story of adventure and mishap, of exploration of family history, of reminiscences and travel experiences.
